Inside-Out
Once the world was filled with singing
Sounds of laughter stirred the air
In the valley church-bells ringing
Smiling faces everywhere
When you took away the sunshine
Turned the world to shades of gray
Killed the laughter and the singing
Turned my hope into dismay
I am on the inside, looking at the outside
Though I cry and though I shout
I am inside-out
Through the waking I am haunted
Even more within my dreams
In the shadows wraiths are stalking
Pierce the silence with their screams
Icy fingers wrap around me
Like a noose about my neck
Vultures gather to devour
As my eyes the ravens peck
I am on the inside, looking at the outside
Though I cry and though I shout
I am inside-out
Daughter of darkness, spawn of the night
Sorrow bathed in shimmering moonlight
Daughter of darkness, queen of despair
Wraps the world in her coal-black hair
Daughter of darkness, spawn of the night
Steals your will and takes your sight
Daughter of darkness, queen of despair
You cry for help, but there’s no one there
From a stirring in the ashes
To a resurrection show
Like the Phoenix I am rising
Climbing higher as I go
Now I penetrate the darkness
Tearing the ebony veil
Light is vanquishing the shadows
Restoring heaven to the hell
I am on the inside, looking at the outside
No more cry and no more shout
No more inside-out
